Between Seasons

Updated: Sep 20

Seven quiet pieces, out today. Written for the space between the chapters — and built, deliberately, to let attention return.
There are nine weeks between Chapter II and Chapter III of Four Seasons of the Soul. I had been treating that as waiting. It isn't. It's a room, and it has its own weather.
Between Seasons is seven instrumental pieces, led by felt piano, written in that room. They are not quieter versions of the chapters. There is no vocal underneath them — there never was one. They are new pieces from the same world, shaped by the same returning thread of memory and restraint.
Three things about how it was made.
The third piece asks a question, and something else answers it. A phrase
closes. Then one and a half seconds of nothing — measured, not implied. Then
a voice lower than the piano finishes it. I am not naming the instrument here; what was measured is that it is lower, not what it is.
The fourth piece refuses to pick a key. It is no longer B minor and not yet D major. I kept trying to resolve it and every resolution made it worse, so I stopped. It is the piece I am most sure about. It is called Between Seasons, and the record is named after it.
The second piece refuses ornament. No bend, no slide: the only movement on the record without one. I checked, because it was worth checking.
The last thing is a decision rather than a story. The record descends. It moves toward Return to Quiet, then leaves one final room open: Stillness. Light rain returns there as memory, not as a new storm. I stopped trying to hold your attention. I would rather hand it back.
That meant leaving the quiet passages quiet. If you are listening in a loud place, some of the record will ask you to come closer. That is the trade, and I made it on purpose.
For reading, or the commute, or the hour before sleep.
Between Seasons — seven pieces, 36 minutes. Composed and produced by TheEchoMindFlow. Created with technology, finished by hand.
